GM Japan
General Manager – Sporting Goods | Tokyo
Have you built, scaled and won in Direct to Consumer within Japan?
Can you own a P&L end-to-end, from marketing spend down to bottom-line growth, and back yourself under pressure?
Are you the kind of leader who’s equally comfortable in a boardroom negotiation and rolling up your sleeves with an agency partner?
We’re partnering with a category leading brand with a unique sports & lifestyle product, on the search for a General Manager to lead their business across Japan. Since entering the market in 2008, the brand has become synonymous with balance, movement and innovation — and with a strong new product line now launching, this is a genuine growth mandate, not a caretaker role.
Based in Tokyo, you’ll inherit an established business and take full ownership of the Japan P&L, driving omni-channel performance with a clear DTC focus.
What you’ll be doing
· Owning total business growth across Japan — DTC, retail and B2B
· Steering marketing campaigns with a sharp eye on ROI and efficiency
· Mastering the full B2C conversion funnel alongside the B2B sales cycle
· Protecting a consistent, compelling brand identity across every touchpoint
· Managing key external partners as the face of the business in Japan
· Leading agencies, freelancers and outside partners with a hands-on, get-it-done mentality
· Working closely with Sales, E-Commerce, Operations and senior Management
What we’re looking for
· A proven track record managing a commercial P&L in the Japanese market
· Sharp analytical instincts, strong execution, and comfort making calls under uncertainty
· Deep fluency in KPIs, budgets and the commercial levers that move a business
· A self-starter mentality — someone who prioritises, tests and implements without waiting to be told
· Fluent Japanese and English, written and spoken, are essential; further languages are a bonus
· Brand, trade marketing, PR, retail activation or events experience is a strong plus
· Prior exposure to sales and distribution across wider Asia is welcome but not essential
