Procurement Director

MacGregor Black is working with a Spirits Brand on the search for Procurement Director. This is a permanent role based in London.

 

As the Procurement Director, you will be responsible for maximising gross profit through ensuring an appropriate range of products are being procured at the best net cost price. You will also set appropriate customer pricing (prior to discount) and will optimise inventory levels to minimise customer out of stocks whist avoiding carrying too much stock.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and execute a strategic sourcing plan for procurement, in alignment with the company’s goals and objectives.
  • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, distilleries, and distributors to ensure a diverse and high-quality product portfolio.
  • Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends, pricing, and new product releases.
  • Continuously assess supplier performance and initiate corrective actions when necessary.
  • Negotiate and manage supplier contracts, including pricing, terms, and delivery schedules.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Monitor and analyse supplier performance metrics, such as on-time delivery, quality, and cost.
  • Implement supplier performance improvement initiatives and conduct regular supplier business reviews.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to identify and evaluate new spirits products, considering factors such as market demand, customer preferences, and profitability.
  • Conduct tastings and evaluations to assess the quality, taste, and uniqueness of spirits offerings.
  • Stay updated on emerging brands and trends, making recommendations for product additions or removals from the portfolio.
  • Develop and manage the procurement demand plan and budget, ensuring cost-effective purchasing practices.
  • Analyse pricing trends, market conditions, and supplier costs to optimise procurement strategies and achieve cost savings.
  • Monitor and control inventory levels, collaborating with the sales and operations team to avoid overstock or shortages.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements related to product procurement, including licensing, labelling, and certification.
  • Mitigate risks associated with procurement activities, such as supply disruptions, quality issues, and price fluctuations.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing procurement team, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback.
  • Set clear objectives and KPIs for the team, regularly tracking progress and addressing any performance gaps.

 

What are we looking for?

 

  • Proven experience in procurement or a similar role, preferably in the beverage industry.
  • Strong knowledge of spirits, including different categories, production processes, and market trends.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Solid understanding of procurement strategies, cost management, and inventory control.
  • Familiarity with legal and regulatory requirements related to alcoholic beverages.
  • Leadership and team management experience.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
