MacGregor Black are partnering with a Consumer goods business, on the search for a Learning & Development Manager. This is a permanent role based in Dundee.


As the L&D Manager, you will serve all business functions and every employee’s, with the main goal of offering accessible and relevant interventions to close skills gaps or expand capabilities. This role will proactively collaborate with leaders and managers to understand learning requirements and leading the L&D team to design, develop and deploy innovative, flexible learning solutions that meet the business objectives and expectations. They provide end to end ownership of learning solutions from requirements gathering through delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

Learning interventions

  • Collaborate to identify skills gaps and establish recommendations on interventions/pathways to close these gaps using blended learning and utilising all methods of delivery.
  • Design, develop and deploy training for relevant legislation, regulation, and strategic objectives.
  • Identify and work with internal and external partners to provide effective solutions.
  • Facilitate and delivery learning sessions across the range of programs, products, and services.
  • Responsible for all delivery logistics including communications, registering.
  • Assist in developing clear learning strategy and methodology to develop, embed, maintain, and improve skills.


Refresher training

  • Own the calendar, planning, scheduling, issuing and reporting of annual refresher training including (but not limited to) licensing, health & safety, regulatory requirements and others (e.g. GDPR, anti-bribery & corruption).
  • Lead on the internal process for refreshing licensing and food hygiene certifications within regulatory timescales.
  • Support other departments with their calendars and planning activities.


Metrics & risk management

  • Identify appropriate metrics, develop evaluation methodologies and analyse data to define ROI.
  • Report on identified metrics monthly.
  • Perform quality assurance testing during the life cycle of learning programs, products, and services.
  • Maintain head of centre status for relevant regulatory bodies through appropriate audit processes and timelines.
  • Plan, monitor and resolve training audits across the organization.


Projects & budgets

  • Assess project performance against targets and achievements, ensuring that training is embedded back in the role and department.
  • Mitigate risk by following established procedures, spotting key errors and demonstrating strong ethical behaviour.
  • Align risk and controls processes into day-to-day responsibilities to assess and mitigate risk; raises issues appropriately.
  • Support the utilization of training levy (flexible workforce development fund) monies through appropriate channels.


Team management & engagement

  • Managing the team to delivery of consistent standards of excellence.
  • Role modelling company values and behaviours.
  • Working in collaboration with the company’s network in the UK and internationally.
  • Coaching own team and wider across the business.
  • Lead role in cross-functional and team events. Planning, delivery, and logistics.
  • Lead delivery of engagement surveys and partner with the business to deliver appropriate action plans.
  • Managing the budget.


What are we looking for?

  • More than 5 years of related experience in training, learning and/or development.
  • Expert level knowledge of adult learning theories and instructional design methodologies
  • Proficiency in modern and multi-channel learning methodologies and delivery methods.
  • Experience in leading projects with tight deadlines
  • Previous experience working with food or convenience retail a benefit but not essential.
  • Knowledge in defining and calculating learning ROIs.
  • Proven track record in managing a team successfully. Remote team management experience beneficial.
  • Creative problem solving in order to support our diverse workforce across Scotland.
  • Proficiency in effectively utilising all IT products.
